Tracy came to the home at the young age of one year. Tracy’s mother had come from the northern part of Uganda (Gulu) where the rebels had slaughtered her entire family accept for one sister who had moved to Jinja years before. When Tracy’s mother arrived in Jinja, she found that her sister had relocated to Kampala and she did not know her whereabouts. Tracy’s mother was stranded.
With no one in Jinja that she knew and any job or money to sustain her, she went to the probation department for help. The probation officer saw Tracy and decided to remove her from the custody of her mother and place her in our care. Tracy was 16 months old and could not stand on her own. She was very weak with very little hair which was turning red because of malnourishment. Tracy’s mother had only been feeding her breast milk because that is all she had. Tracy was tested for HIV and found to be negative but was positive for syphilis. Her mother probably gave birth to her while she had the infection and was never treated for it. Tracy also could not or maybe would not talk until she was two. It took Tracy awhile to really come into her own but she has.
Tracy loves playing, especially with dolls. She’s still quiet but she participates in games and enjoys singing. After much thought, Tracy says her favorite color is orange and that she enjoys watching Barney and Baby Bop. Tracy also likes to eat posho and
beans. She also loves Junior so much because he plays with her. At school she enjoys writing her letters and numbers. Tracy has come a long way and it blesses our hearts to see where God has brought her from. When you think of our miracle working God, please pray for Tracy here by the Nile River.
