Ruth Dalaia Kirya ![]()
Ruth was abandoned in children’s hospital. Her mother brought her into the hospital and laid her on a bed. She told a lady that she was going to get a doctor. She returned without a doctor but told the lady that the doctor was coming and that she wanted to go and get some food. The lady agreed to watch Ruth for her while she went to buy food. When the doctor arrived, he checked over this little angel and found that there was nothing wrong with her. Ruth was not sick. The hospital staff decided to try and wait awhile for the mother to return. She never returned. Ruth spent two weeks in the hospital before we were informed that she needed a home. While she was in the hospital Ruth did get sick with a bacterial infection. She was placed on IV fluids and heavy antibiotics. She also lost over 2 lbs while she was there. When we went to pick her up from the hospital, we saw this sick, malnourished, but beautiful 4 month old little girl who instantly smiled and cooed. We found out later that the young lady had actually given birth to Ruth in prison and upon release tried to give her away to Amani Baby Cottage. The director refused and said that she should take care of her child. After that the young lady took the baby to the children’s hospital and dropped her there. The mother was found rearrested for child abandonment, served time, and has been released. She has to date never come to inquire about Ruth.
Ruth is a very happy baby. She is quick to give a smile and reach for you so you can pick her up. She’s at the stage now where she is trying to crawl. She has trouble getting one leg out from under her but she’s getting there. When Ruth first came all she did was cry. She cried from morning till night. If she was hungry, she would cry. If she wasn’t hungry, she would cry. If she was wet, she would cry. If she wasn’t wet, she would cry. But thank the Lord that after a month or so she got better. Now she only cries when she’s hungry or has a soiled diaper. She’s a happy baby and we love her dearly. We pray that God will also give her a wonderful couple to adopt her and love her but if not we are happy to keep her for as long as God allows. When you think of our little Ruth, remember that Ruth in the bible said that “Your people will be my people and your God my God,” and pray that our little Ruth will follow those words as well.
