Isaac Mwesigwa, whom we call Mwesigwa, which means faithful, has been with us since September of 2002. The story told was that Mwesigwa’s mother discovered she had AIDS and abandoned him with his father. His father died of AIDS early 2002. Mwesigwa was taken in by a “neighbor”, and a priest from the local Catholic Church helped the “neighbor” to take care of Mwesigwa and his two sisters.

The oldest sister died of cerebral malaria 2 days before they were brought to us. The “neighbor” who had been taking care of Mwesigwa and his siblings was actually found out later to be the father of the Mwesigwa and Unice (his sister). Apparently, Mwesigwa’s mother, who was one of two wives of this man, died. The other wife began physically abusing Mwesigwa and his sister. So Mwesigwa’s father decided to get rid of them. When we found out the truth and confronted him, he admitted what really happened and agreed to take back his children after talking to his wife about her behavior. We agreed on a particular day for him to return and take his children. To date the man has never returned and his whereabouts are unknown.

Mwesigwa is a little boy through and through. He’s into everything. Though he’s sometimes mischievous he is definitely one of the nicest children you could ever meet. He is very affectionate. Mwesigwa says he wants to be pastor when he grows up. When the children “play church”, he’s always the pastor and knows how to preach, take offering, and even lay hands and pray. It’s amazing to see him in action. Mwesigwa’s nickname is Appetite Boy because HE CAN EAT even more than his big brother Isaac!! Mwesigwa’s favorite color is purple (like Mommy’s) and he enjoys eating posho and greens and pizza. He loves watching Goofy and coloring. When you think us here in Jinja, think of Mwesigwa and the faithfulness of the Lord.
