Isaac Mwesigwa
Born: unknown
Admitted: n/a

Isaac Mwesigwa, whom we call Mwesigwa, has been with us since September of 2002. The story we have been told is that Mwesigwa’s mother discovered she had AIDS and abandoned her three children with their father. In early 2002, the father died, and the children were being taken care of by a neighbor. A priest from a local Catholic Church also helped raise the two older sisters, and little Mwesigwa. Two days before the children were brought to us, the oldest sister died of cerebral malaria, and only Mwesigwa and his older sister Unice came to be with us.

After doing some of our own research, we found out the “neighbor” caring for the children was actually their father. The children’s mother was his second wife and after she left, his other wife started physically abusing Mwesigwa and his sisters. So, the father decided to get rid of them. When we found out the truth and confronted him, he admitted what had really happened and agreed to take back his children after talking to his wife about her behavior. We agreed on a particular day for him return and take his children. To date, the man has never returned, and his whereabouts are unknown.

Because there was already an Isaac here, we call him Mwesigwa, which means faithful. When he arrived, he did not speak any English, but soon learned. He loves going to school and helping around the house. Even at his young age, Mwesigwa has a pure heart for the Lord. He loves to pray and talks to the Lord as if he were a grown man. For years, Mwesigwa has had his mind set that he will be a Pastor when he grows up. During church, you will always find him worshipping with his eyes closed and his hands outstretched to God. When you think of us here in Jinja, think of Mwesigwa and the faithfulness of the Lord.
