Joann came to us at the tender age of three days. We were called by the Probation Officer and informed that there was a baby abandoned in a medical clinic. Joann’s mother was a girl of 18 who “claimed” she came from the northern part of Uganda. Joann’s mother told the hospital staff she was going to go to the market (40 meters away) to get a bag to gather her belongings, in order to return home.

The young mother never returned and the next morning we were notified. What the hospital staff derived from the young girl before she gave birth was, she’d left home pregnant and traveled a great distance to have her child. Her parents and relatives probably never knew she was pregnant.

Joann is a beautiful little girl who is very pleasant and extremely cooperative. She has the most contagious laughter who will ever hear. It’s so filled with joy. Joann is very tall for her kindergarten age. She enjoys learning about numbers the most. Her favorite color is red. She enjoys eating fish and rice and she loves watching Peter Pan. Joann’s best friend is Robert because Robert always shares his snack with her at school. Joann is a joy to have. We know that God has great plans for her. Whether she stays with us for all time or whether God allows another couple to adopt her, we will cherish every day we have with her and raise her up to fear the Lord.
