Jehiah Susan Kirya

On the 18th of January we received a one day old baby whom we have named Jehiah which means “alive by the mercy of God.” Jehiah was found in a swamp by an elderly man who was walking by. This little baby was still covered in the blood of birth but also in her own blood as someone had taken a razor blade and slashed her neck and punctured her arm. Whoever did this intended for this baby to die. The man took the baby to the police who in turn took the baby to the Probation Department. Jehiah had lost quite a bit of blood and was immediately taken to the hospital for proper medical treatment. Initially Jehiah’s HIV test was “reactive” for the HIV virus. However, upon taking her in February to Joint Medical Research Centre for an in depth test, she tested “non reactive/HIV-”. The doctor that examined her and took the blood for her test was a Swedish doctor. He gave a very thorough examination of Jehiah and said despite being slightly under weight and anemic, that she was fine. He said what we were doing for her was exactly what she needs. When we called for the results of the HIV test two weeks later, he gave us thumbs up and said that she was fine.
Jehiah is a beautiful little girl who can look at you with such serious looks that sometimes you think she’s looking right through you. Other times she can give you the biggest smile that you have ever seen. Jehiah is serious but at the same time she’s a chatterbox. Once you get her going she can talk and laugh and even scream with excitement. We love this little girl so much. She has really brought happiness to our lives and we are glad that she made it through the difficult days. Jehiah has blessed our lives and everyone that has come in contact with her and has heard her story have also been blessed. We pray that God will continue to allow us to see her grow and become the woman He has her to be. She likes to play with Ruth, Andrew and Michael and she likes color Green. She likes Rice and Chicken. Jehiah tried Baby class last year and needs some help in performing better, but she's still young and we know she will catch up. When you think of the Pearl of Africa, think of this little pearl called Jehiah in our midst.
