Children We ended the months of February and March with 23 orphans of whom all we have had for more than 6 months. The age range of the children in the home is now 1 year to 10 years. There are 10 boys and 13 girls. ALL children who are school aged have returned to school. Health For the months of February and March, health was fair. We had all four toddlers with colds as well as 3 older children with malaria. All illnesses were mild. All received treatment and recovered well. The major health problem came from me personally which was required me to have surgery. The surgery went well and I have recovered well. No complications resulted during or after the surgery or during recovery. I am very grateful to the Lord that I am doing much better. Finances Our water bill is still very high due to the continuous leaks. Food prices are exorbitant and fuel is also on the rise again. We received extra finances just for in January for stock piling and with the crisis in Kenya over, we have began using those times we stored. But the items that could not be stored are still extremely expensive. The cost of cooking oil has gone up from 38,000UGS to 72,000UGS. The cost of sugar has increased from 2,000 per kilo to 4000 per kilo. Fuel has increased to now 3500 per litre. The value of the dollar has declined again and continues to fluctuate. Challenges The biggest challenge over the last few months was dealing again with increase in food prices and fuel prices. The water leakages continue to be a problem and our water bill continues to climb. The worst cases are in the boys section of the house. If these bathrooms can be rectified then I’m sure a noticeable decrease in the water bill would be seen. Electricity is very erratic which poses a problem in doing work on the computer. The computer is also extremely slow and is about to kick the bucket. So with the two problems combined, it makes completing anything on the computer a real task. |
