Mother's Corner

Someone told me recently that one of the things that we forget most is to say Thank You. I don’t want to be one who forgets those two precious words. You may not realize what impact you have thousands of miles away but let me refresh your memory. Without you we could not do what we do. The children would not be able to have three balanced meals every day plus fruit in the afternoon. Without you, we could not provide an education for the children. A lot of children in Uganda cannot afford to go to school. Our children have gone to nursery school and are also in primary school.. They are among a select few in this country that have done that. Without you, the children would not have experienced the Uganda museum, the zoo, Didi’s world (a very miniature Disneyland) as well as ride a donkey. Without you, our children would not be able to have 3 pairs of shoes (1 for church, 1 for school and 1 pair of flip flops for home). Our children are very blessed. I thank the Lord that He has used me as a vessel to bridge the waters between Uganda and America. I never thought as a young lady that I would live in a third world country where the average salary is below a hundred dollars a year. I never thought I would live somewhere where sometimes I have no electricity and water. But I live her with all my children and I thank the Lord for placing people like you to believe in the children and want to give them the best life that God can offer them. Being born in a Third World country doesn’t have to mean doom. Being born in a Third World country doesn’t have to mean there is no hope for you. My children have hope. My children know they have a future and you have helped make it possible. What you give in finances, prayer, and time makes a difference in their lives. You may not see it every day, but I do. And I want to say THANK YOU. Those two words don’t seem like enough to express my gratitude for your love and sacrifice towards the children. Your $35.00 a month buys 50kgs of posho (a local staple food). Those 50 kgs feeds the family for two weeks. Thank you for giving. Your $20.00 provides 7 chickens that feed the entire family for 1 full meal. Thank you for giving. It’s not easy providing for a family of over 30 people but you make it possible with every financial gift that you give, with every prayer that you send up to our Heavenly Father on our behalf and for every visit or email that you send.. Thank you so much. The kids couldn’t be so happy and healthy without you. I pray God rewards you in this life as well as the next.

Child of the Month

Meet the newest edition to the family, Paul.  Paul came to us in July and he will be 4 years old in October.  Paul’s mother died of Aids and his father who is currently alive is quickly deteriorating. The probation department stepped in and asked AFTC to take Paul.  I originally said “No, we don’t have space”.  But Haley Lawson, a twice volunteer said, “But we do. Daphine is gone remember. We can use her bed.”  She pretty much reminded me that we were just blessed with enough clothes for a 3-4 year old boy and that we could move Daphine’s old bed down stairs.  She was absolutely right.  I called the probation officer and let him know that I changed my mind and that we would take Paul. Thank God for “Auntie Haley”.  Paul is such a bundle of joy.  The first few days he was quiet and reserved but it didn’t take him long to show us his true side.  Paul is a natural born comedian.  He has such a contagious laughter and is so quick to laugh and smile.  His father came to visit one day and asked him if he wanted to go home with him. Paul told him, “No. But just bring my brother because I want him to be here too.”  Paul also LOVES going to church.  On Monday he will asks, “Mommy are we going to church?” I’ll say “No Paul, on Sunday.”  Then he will say, “No Saturday.”  Why Saturday we don’t know.  They weren’t 7th Day Adventists but on Tuesday it will be the same question. It just makes me laugh.  We are all happy that Paul is apart of our family.  We are sorry that he has had a difficult beginning. We pray he will be like Paul the Apostle but with a lot of humor.  Remember Paul when you pray for AFTC.
